In another thread, I posted information on Robert Stewart Morrison, an old Colorado mining attorney who wrote fifteen editions of a mining rights horn book (1874-1917).

Between 1883 and 1904 he also compiled, "The Mining Reports: A Series Containing the Cases on the Law of Mines Found in the American and English Reports, Arranged Alphabetically by Subjects, with Notes and References" (22 volumes).

Here again is the search link in Google Books where you can download most, if not all of the 22 volumes. Morrison's Mining Reports Volume List

As noted in the title, the court cases are arranged alphabetically by Subjects. After Morrison completed the early volumes, he decided to iteratively supplement the Subjects (arranged alphabetically again and again....well you get the drift). As can be imagined this choice of organizing the cases, esp. the later ones is not the easiest to wade through.

Don H. Sherwood prepared an index to ease the pain of locating all pertinent cases on a particular subject. In the other thread I noted that the link to the index at the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation's web site was no longer functional. The index is now available again at RMMLF. Instead of several very long web pages, the index has been reformatted into a PDF file. For a particular subject, R.S. Morrison placed what he regarded as the leading case first. For example, under the ABANDONMENT subject, the first case cited is Derry v. Ross, a Colorado court case decided in 1881 (found in Volume 1, Page 1).

The index and outline is 199 pages and includes explanatory notes on its organization. So, if you ever wanted to know how the courts ruled on extralateral rights, etc. this index is a good source of information.
