I observed an unusually large, long duration fireball this morning as the sun was coming up. I've reported it to a tracking observatory but sometimes they have technical or weather problems and miss the event.

The fireball lasted several seconds but I didn't count off the time interval as it was soooo beautiful...I was in awe!

Generally, it appears from my perspective that the object would have come down between Las Animas and a few miles south of Lamar. Hopefully, there are other observers that will report their data and a precise location on possible meteorites can be ascertained. For those who share my passion, you'll be interested in the raw data;

Point of observation was Lat 38.314673, Lon -104.638571 and elevation above mean sea level was 4901 feet.
Altitude above horizon at start was 50 degrees and at the end of visible burn it was 20 degrees above the horizon.
Azimuth (TRUE) Heading at start was 46 degrees and at the end of visible flight was 102 degrees.

I would love to be able to recover a meteorite that I observed as it arrived. The metal detector batteries are charging now and I'm looking for any news reports or other observations that can help me pinpoint a possible strewn field for meteorites. biggrin.gif
