Went antiquing here in Topeka with mom and wife today and at the last place we stopped, the fella there asked if we collected anything.
We said we were just browsing around and we were, but im always on the lookout for cheap sterling of course. I didn't tell him that but I asked him if he had any coins.
At first he said no, but wait! He says he does have a few and he'd be right back.
He came back out and plopped 6 coins down on the counter and he said he'd take a buck for them. He said they wouldn't sell just sitting in the back room anyway.
I'm not much of a coin guy but I go through my change jar every year never expecting much. I find the random Wheatie and a silver quarter every so often but that's the extent of it. I don't know much about them but I do toss the good ones aside when I find them and I've maybe got a handful by now haha.
It's about the best I might do for a treasure in Topeka this visit since the rain won't let up and I'm limited on time here.

Got a 1945 wheat
1944 mercury dime
1924 mercury dime
1937 buffalo (Indian Head) nickel
And best of all, an 1882 one cent piece!
They aren't rare coins or uncirculated or worth a ton but they're worth more than a buck for sure and it almost felt like seeing flash in the pan there for a minute!! Whoohoo!

Yep, the bucks are stacking up hehe. No luck on sterling ware and we hit some shops in atchison too but no luck there. Plenty of silver plate of various types for sale but most thrift shops are on the lookout for sterling and I'm sure they keep what they come across. I picked up two sterling candle holders for $6 but that's about it. If I was an eBay seller the plated stuff might be worth selling but there's alot of it around and not hard to find.
One persons display had a bunch of gold chains for sale for cheap and the tag said 24k which at first caught my attention big-time, until I realized that was just their booth number. Dohhh! Just gold colored paint haha.
That's Kansas prospecting for ya.
