Colorado Prospector - Gem and mineral prospecting and mining forums _ Treasure Hunting and Metal Detecting _ Trying to decide. GB2 or GB Pro

Has anyone used both the Gold Bug 2 and Gold Bug Pro here in Colorado?

I am torn between the Gold Bug Pro and Gold Bug 2. This will be used to find gold only and mostly tiny gold not too deep in highly mineralized soil. I am looking to do some prospecting (on this the GB2 seems to win based on what I have read due to it's 70khz freq and not too much iron) but I will also be detecting for gold in some mine tailings and here I have heard that I'll be digging a lot of trash with the GB2 and less with GB pro (but I am not sure about that since some of this could be tied to usage issues).

Is the GB2 way more sensitive to small gold than the GB2 or just something like 10 to 25% more sensitive? Will I be better off with the GB Pro even though it is less sensitive since I will be digging fewer trash targets?

From what I've heard and read they will both do what you are wanting them to. One has auto balance and one is manual balance.
h20prospector (Pat) has a couple of GB2's and does well with them. You will want the small coil for whichever you choose. Glacial deposit, shallow Gold, heavy mineralization, lots of trash targets, tailings.... sounds exactly like my claim. You will get a digging workout with that scenario. If it IS my claim...well.... you'll get a workout running. crossbones.gif
If it were me.... I'd go for the GB2 with manual balance. I'd rather be in sole control of that feature, especially with the heavy mineralization you mentioned.
Good luck with whichever you choose and stay safe out there. happy088.gif

I finally heard from a few users who have used both for looking for small gold and also heard from the designer (see my post in the head to head MD comparison section in Treasurenet.com forums) of the GB2 and GB Pro. It looks like the GB pro is slightly better at avoiding junk but on the other hand the GB2 is much (not just a little) better at noticing small gold so it looks like that's way to for the areas I tend to visit.

Any of the GB2 users here have any tips (I have read the manual and videos so I know the basics) for using this here in the mountains in Colorado?

Now the next step is that I need to check out some leads I have on used GB2s.....

I checked out some leads I had on used GB2s.....and also got prices from the various sources online including Craig's list and Ebay. Then I checked with Bart (bigboyshobbies.net) and got a super price along with his fast shipping and excellent communication. His price beat a few of the used prices I found!

Man... I've looked before and it was hard to even find them used. Even then, they were close to retail price.
$764.00 at Bigboy?

$764 is the going price that you can find a lot of places (e.g., Ebay new, KellyDetectors.com etc.). Bart can and will beat that price by a nice margin. (Tell Bart, Wolfgang sent you)

I just got the GB2 and love it. I find it easy to ground balance

I have a GB2. It's the MD I wanted for the longest time, it's excellent. I still have problems getting it to balance right, H2o gave me a few lessons on it.

Wolfgang, I've been thinking of letting my GB2 go. If you;re interested, PM me.

Did you ever sell your GB2? I've got a line on a used one for $500; still trying to decide if that is the way to go.

Nah, never sold it. Gonna hold on to it now.
