Hi folks, newbie here. I recently saw an old collection that had calcite and barite crystals from Otero County. I understand they come from septarian nodules in the pierre shale. Can anyone steer me towards a collecting site for these ??

Welcome to the forums Johnnygotrox! sign0016.gif

A few of the Club Members and I took a few trips down to Otero County recently and found large Septarian nodules with http://www.coloradoprospector.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4924&st=0 and other minerals and fossils.

If you would like to find your own spot I recommend learning more about the status of the lands you wish to prospect. A good topic to start with is http://www.coloradoprospector.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=2638

There is lots of great info on the site here so dig in!
