I'm only excited because it's something other than smokey quartz. Granted, I'll always take something over nothing, but that's all I've ever found so far.

Ok, woooooo, took some more photos of my Fluorite. Honestly, they're pretty badass. Half of which makes me want to paint again. - ....... - ....... yeah.... I kind of have a lot of "hobbies," I paint, sculpt, wood work.. the list goes on and on which I won't get into... not yet.. anywho, the photos;

Very nice Fluorite!! I can definitely see by the new pics how it would make you want to paint again. Mineral paintings are very popular in the mineral world! I have seen some amazing ones and I think your Fluorite would make a great subject.

I'm borrowing this thread because the title is too perfect. My sister took a trip to Oregon and brought me a LOT of rocks from near the Gold Coast. I don't have an exact Mohs but its between 3.5 and 5.5 ( a copper penny and a steel knife) it has a waxy appearance very small cystals in the crevaces, very fine grain, no banding of other minerals. I performed a scratch test on the concrete, due to a lack of unglazed porcelain tile, and it left a white powder. I couldn't do a specific gravity test :/ The color is close to Coleman green. I'm guessing Green chalcedony? I apologize for the crap pictures.

My best guess for your rock fenixsmom is Sodalite.
Colors: Royal blue, green, yellow, violet. White veins common. Mohs: 5.5-6 Luster: Dull vitreous to greasy Streak: white Specific Gravity: 2.27-2.33 UV light: Bright Red- Orange There has been significant deposits found near Golden, British Columbia Hope this helps. Next time we meet up I can do a specific gravity test and/or test with UV light. It should glow bright red-orange under UV light, short wave and long wave. -------------------- |
