Hello members and visitors;

My family is selling our gold mining claims that are on the Arkansas River in an effort to direct more time to working our diamond mines west of Fort Collins. This offer is for the POINT BAR PLACER mining claim. It surrounds the public "Point Barr" recreational area that is a very popular recreational prospecting site being published in GPAA, BLM and many other prospecting venues.

I was born downstream of this deposit and grew up prospecting the Arkansas River between Salida and Canon City, Colorado. There is a very rich history of this area and my family shares my passion for mining. I remember a couple of guys that worked the open public lands when gold was $35 per troy ounce. They spent their summers fishing and mining and said they paid for their college tuition. Even to this day, LOTS of people still work the gravels near our POINT BAR in the public mining areas.

As a teen, I was interested in what created the swirling whirlpool holes that were bored into bedrock in that area. The holes are numerous and those that were very deep and had some filling from trash by the visiting public along with a sampling of the area's wildlife that got trapped. The pop bottles down hole had a good deposit value but the snakes freaked me out! But now I know how those holes can trap gold and I've tried to get to the bottom of my first target, but I still haven't cleared that pothole. There are many other potholes that haven't even been started to be worked on.

We are asking $20,000.00 US funds. This sales offer is valid through midnight May 1st, 2017.

Please direct your inquiries to;

Sincerely,

Club Members and Visitors,

Due to continued interest in this offering, thumbsupsmileyanim.gif my family will reopen the sales window and share some additional information on the offering. My family has an active dredging permit for the claim but since I've recently retired from a state government scientist/researcher position, I am now focusing my talents on diamond mining upon my company's claims in the Stateline District. This is the reason for offering the gold placer claims on the Arkansas River and this is the last of our 4 claims as the 3 others have already sold to CP members.

I was born near the Arkansas River in Canyon City just downstream from the Royal Gorge. My father was an avid fisherman, hunter and trapper along the river for decades and I came across the numerous potholes as a kid while on one of our family trips fishing. Since then, I've always been intrigued by them and what gold might be found on the bottom of the tubular swirls cut into the bedrock. I know of no other potholes on the river outside of my claim boundaries and of great interest is the fact that the narrowest width anywhere along the river occurs on the claim as well. I've made an attempt at getting to the bottom of one of the potholes that I call #1 (photo posted earlier in the thread) but haven't yet succeeded as the hole is in excess of 6 feet deep! There are many other potholes that have never even been explored yet. This is a unique geological feature that is rare in nature and has historically been known to yield surprising amounts of gold when mined in California and Arizona. Here's a link to some interesting info on pothole gold...

Pothole Gold in California

As a teenager, I was amazed by a couple of college guys that worked by hand in what is now the public area for gold. They fished, camped and panned for gold all summer and then used their gold finds to pay for their tuition... and that was when gold was $30 per ounce! The public now works the recreational site and I don't know of any production records other than the estimated production for Fremont County in 1881 of 1,000 troy ounces. That was recorded as being in part from T49N, R10E on the Arkansas River near the mouth of Badger Creek near Howard where this claim is located. If you can get a hold of the book GOLD OCCURRENCES OF COLORADO published by the Colorado Geological Survey in 1990, the references on gold production are in there along with other useful information. There is still a lot of untouched gold bearing ground on my claims above the river high water line but interestingly, lots of fine gold gets replenished into the river channel each spring with runoff and flooding. All of the gold on the public site had to get by the potholes and pinch points on my claim before it came to rest in that free mining area. Just Google BLM Point Barr and you can see what the public site is all about or you can visit this prospecting link as well;

Access is by State Highway 50 on the south and along County Road 45 along the north. Please refer to the attached Google Earth View that shows the approximate boundaries of the claim.
