I'm getting several reports about fire restrictions throughout Colorado. Last report yesterday was that there is a state wide fire restriction. Red flag warnings all over! This may also be the cause of several locked gates in areas that are usually accessible.
Hang in there everyone, is going to be a very dry summer here in Colorado! Here is a link to keep up to date info on fire bans and restrictions. Colorado Fire Bans and Restrictions -------------------- Education is the key to the future,

I spent last weekend at my claim clearing dead fall along the creek so you could say that wood kept me warm haha.
My campfire was sorely missed but I still managed to hang out with my dog until about 10 oclock and enjoy a few beers, just had to bundle up a little more. Other than a group of wandering cows there wasn't much action in the area and they kept my dog up half the night....which kept me up too. She didn't want them coming anywhere around our camp and wasn't having any of that nonsense. Being the big dumb curious critters they are she had to run them off a couple of times and then they come back later hehe. It was a little slow going in the morning but I was sure glad to not get stepped on in my sleep! -------------------- Level 2 member -12/25/16

We've been working in telluride this week and yesterday we were under the huge smoke plume coming from Durango. It was noticeably hotter, smelled like a campfire and we had ash raining down on us most of the day. The sun was glowing red and the plume over the valley was pretty intiimidating.

You might also be seeing smoke from the Spring fire in Costilla county near Fort Garland. It has grown to 25,000 acres in just a couple days. Here is a news story about it.

I looked up the 416 fire and found this article. Pretty funny it made the news around telluride but it was definitely not a normal occurrence I'm sure haha. Sure made me a little nervous! -------------------- Level 2 member -12/25/16

We went to the fireworks show last night in Gunnison and it was awesome and nothing burned down.
The grand finale lit up the whole town! I heard all were cancelled except for ours and two others. Are all the city council members in Colorado that much of pansies?! They really think they will catch concrete on fire? We're turning into California more and more every year haha. -------------------- Level 2 member -12/25/16

Here in Costilla county, with the sky filled with thick smoke so bad it's burning our eyes and lungs and blocking out visibility......fire works was the last thing on our minds.

It's really hazy around here but can't smell it as much now. You're way too close to that fire Denise. That smoke can be nasty.

Here's my favorite site for wildfire information:
InciWeb This is a site that gives updates on all federally-controlled wildfires and other incidents. You can see there are a lot of active wildfires in Colorado right now. |

We've been working between Glenwood springs and aspen this week and have been driving by the basalt fire daily. It's been raining some here and it looks like they are making some head way now. I hope those boys stay safe out there. Lots of choppers flying overhead making trips with water or men I'd guess.
