I would like to start by saying hello to everyone here at CP! I am moving to Colorado here in the near future. As someone who has lived in florida my entire life I am well aware that there are many many differences and challenges that I will have to face and overcome in order to be successful. I've been thumbing through the posts and have been researching as much as I possibly can on colorados mining regulations ( both state and federal) as much as possible in my free time. Even as a child I have always had an interest in mining, geology, and even just rocks in general lol. Knowing that I am far too inexperienced to just "dig in" I would gladly accept and whole heartedly appreciate any information, tips or advice that anyone would be willing to share. Mining has always been a passion of mine but I find it difficult to apply here in Florida. I know that there are numerous dangers, hazards, and unexpected occurences to deal with but I'm ok with that. I feel as though this is something I could do every day of my life and never get tired of it. They say if you love what you do you never work a day in your life and that pretty much sums up how I feel about it. Although I am most certainly the newbie here now I look forward to expanding my knowledge and contributions my fair share here at cp and to the Colorado mining industry and all those associated. Againg thank you all and glad to be here!

Welcome to the forums! There's a ton of information on here, so feel free digesting that at your leisure. You'll probably have questions as you go, and just post them up.
Do you have an idea what values you'll want to pursue? Aside from land status research, that answer will very much drive what equipment you need, knowledge that will help, etc. A few of us primarily pursue gold, while others prefer minerals/crystals, and some are jacks of all trades. What part of CO are you going to? Get out here and meet some folks, and you'll get your feet wet in short order. -------------------- Lifetime Member

Thank you EMac I appreciate the response. I would like to focus on gems and minerals but I tend to try and take a jack of all trades approach with everything I do. I feel it gives a better foundation from which you can build in any direction you like. I have a few very promising job opportunities in the Denver/Parker area but would like to try to stay out of the densely populated metro areas. Should those fall through I would at least like to reside somewhere to the eastern side of the state as I have a daughter that lives in Tennessee and the closer I am the easier it would be to get her when I can. I understand that my initial post may have come across to a lot of you as "wishy washy" but I assure you that I am well aware that I have quite a bit of research to do before I even raise a pick and especially so before i am able to really turn my passion from hobby to occupation. I'm appreciative of the fact that there is such a wealth of knowledge and information readily available on mining and other related subjects here at the cp site itself. Too bad there isn't a way to jump into an apprentice sort arrangement from the start as while closely related, book smarts and field smarts are often two entirely different subjects. Again thank you for taking your time to respond to my post.

Colorado Springs is a big town, but not Denver big and plenty of opportunities to dig all around!

Again thank you for taking your time to respond to my post. Welcome to the forums CAndrews89! I hope your move to Colorado goes well. I am glad to hear you are digging into the research. An "apprentice arrangement" may be hard to secure but the CP Club can help with getting together with people in the field to gain valuable field experience. Club Members often get together for prospecting in the field. I have invited Members up to my claim(crystals) May 13th-15th and I plan to do more invites this season. If you are interested in digging on my claim or other Club Member outings then you should consider a Club Membership. I did not find your post wishy washy at all. It looks like you have the right mindset with digging into research and looking for field experience. Sorry about the late response. I typed a response to your first post several days ago but my computer glitched when I went to post it and have not been back on till today. -------------------- |
