Hey guys and gals. I'm new to the forum. I'm gonna be making my way down into Colorado several times this month from Wyoming and was curious if anyone could point me in a good direction to find some Smokey Quartz and possibly some amazonite?? I've been obsessed with quartz crystals for quite some time now and would really like to get my hands in the dirt and possibly find some. I don't wish to step on anyone's toes here. I would just like a general area to look if possible. From my house to the Lake George area is about a 7hr drive so I'd just like some direction when I get there. Once again thank you guys and gals and happy hunting!!!:)

Hi Trevor and welcome to CP Forums! Sorry, I didn't not catch your introductory thread on the 14th or I'd have said hi sooner.
Lake George/Teller County area is a great place to find what you're looking for. Much of that area is actively claimed so you'll definitely need to do some homework prior to your visit to avoid mineral trespass. I have only worked the ground at someone's mine there once by invitation. I have not researched public/unclaimed areas there so not sure where to point you. There are folks here who know the area much better than me and hopefully they can lend some advice. Meanwhile, stick around and enjoy the forum, lots of great information and people here! -------------------- /l ,[____], l---L-OlllllllO- ()_) ()_)--o-)_) BLACK SANDS MATTER! Howdy! Sorry I missed your post as well, I was on the road.
There is also a lot of what your looking for in the Pike's peak area. A little less claimed than the Lake George area, but you still need to do your homework to ensure you're good to go. -------------------- Find Colorado Prospector on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/170314493176558

Thank you guys. I'm actually going to be moving to the Fort Collins area in May. So excited to get to live in your beautiful state and look for gems whenever I want!:) I will definitely do my research on active mines. I know if I put the money out for mineral rights I would be pretty upset if someone were to jump on my claim. I look forward to digging and maybe meeting up with some of you soon! Thanks again. Good luck this season :)

Good luck this season :) Welcome to the forums Trevor! Fort Collins area is beautiful! I hope to see you in the field as well. I have invited CP Club Members up to my claim in mid May. It sounds like you will be busy moving but you should have a look at a Club Membership as I have more invites to my claim and other prospecting trip ideas for Club Members this season. My claim has produced many Smokey Quartz crystals, Goethite, Fluorite, one Topaz crystal and one Xenotime crystal. I am still looking for my Amazonite spot. I have found some but not the quality I am looking for. I hope your move goes well. Welcome to Colorado! -------------------- |

Welcome to the forums Trevor! Colorado is a great state for prospecting, you'll really enjoy living here. Hope all goes well with your move next month and welcome to Colorado when you get here!
You're on the right track keeping the research complete and finding open lands.....good work! We have a super member group who feel the same way, you'll fit right in so make yourself right at home! Best of luck out there on your prospecting, there are quite a few places you should be able to find samples of different quartz crystals around the state too. -------------------- CP-Owner/Administrator
