I don't know about others, but my curiousity was piqued early when learning to pan when I saw all the other stuff besides tiny froghairs of yellow when I got down to the final teaspoon of concentrates.

I know a lot of folks recognize liquid mercury. But did you know that mercury comes in a SOLID form and it doesn't have a lick o'silver on it, in it nor under it? Nope, a deep blackish grey solid is what mercury looks like when the "wetness" is gone out of it.

Lots of newbies and old timers get excited when they see white-ish/silver-ish metals in their pan and hope against hope they've stumbled across the platinum or one of the PGM group metals. THAT is highly unlikely in the US except in very rare places. One such rare place is in SW Oregon. Another in skarns scattered throughout No. Cali. And of course, there's the Sweetwater Mining area with it's PGM sprinkles throughout a pan.

So WHAT ARE some of the more likely white-ish/silver-ish metal candidates in YOUR sluice or goldpan??

Here's a chart put out by some big outfit that wants to sell gonzo sized equipment most of us will never see in our lifetime. Ignore that part unless drooling over the biiiiiiig toys....that's your thing. BUTTTTTT...
now, that far right column, is verrrrrrrrrrrrry interesting. Caught my eye. It's so big I can't do a screen save, but maybe Denise can. So, I'm posting the link so you can go look, and then come back and talk about any of them.

Listed White-ish/Silver-ish Color Metals Chart

It contains a list by name, of white-ish or silver-ish colored metals as a descriptor in the short introductory paragraph with the name of the metal.

I hope this helps someone. I'll just keep looking for the yellow if it allright with y'all. LOL wub.gif
