I'm heading up to Colorado from Houston to visit family for 12 days starting November 15th leaving on the 27th and want to get in a little collecting while I'm there. I'd really appreciate any input you guys have on where I might have some luck. Would love to find quartz, calcite or flourite but have fun hunting it all. Thanks in advance yall.

Be prepared for everything to maybe be under snow, or at least cold weather at that time. Just to warn ya!

I expect the cold. Hoping against snow or at least as little as possible. I'm trying to have the salida leadville area as the western limits all the way east to the plains. Basically eastern Colorado. I'm not interested in gold. Also if anyone so desires, I'd love to meet up with a local who wants to get in a hunt.

I will Guess that Leadville will be in snow due to its high elevation.

There are definitely a few good spots that are in lower elevations. Some of the rockhounding guides mention areas for fossils, calcite, barite and a few locations for the pegmatite crystals. I will be flying back from south Carolina on November 24. If I'm not too pooped from the trip I may try to get out that weekend. Where will you he staying?

Welcome to the forums Proudtex76!

I have a place I could point you to on the southeastern plains. Calcite and other crystals. Fossils as well. If you are interested I can send you some directions via private message.

Was going to offer to set something up down there, but my sister is coming to town for the week for Thanksgiving, so I'm stuck at home

Thanks everyong for the comments. I'll be staying in Trinidad but will be making trips from there for a day or 2 or 3 at a time wherever the wind blows me that day.
