Looking over Steve's adventures in Colorado's mountains....All I can say is that he is one lucky man
(that he gets back alive).
Be prepared!! No matter what time of year.
Sheesh!
Here is a link to American Red Cross' info on staying safe and prepared when out hiking or camping.

Stay safe out there and know your limits.
You gotta watch out for things like this too Denise.

Another good reason you should take your time and know your surroundings.
Be cautious with increas in altitude. I can't expound on that enough. Seen a guy last summer that was from San Diego and was nearly passed out becauseof lack of O2. All he did was walk 50 meters from his car in "downtown" Winfield.
Im always careful when Im out doing anything Carl. Living at this altitude(10,000 feet), I dont have that problem..........but thanks for the info.
Thats one reason why they use places like this to train athletes to build up their endurance. Then when they are back at lower elevations, they move like the wind.

Here is a warning sign, of another thing to be cautious of when mountain hiking.
I took this picture when I was out enjoying the day, hiking and prospecting yesterday.
A mountain lions favorite way to hunt, is to stalk its prey and pounce on it from above.
There are 'cats reported on the west end of BV recently. Went for a hike a few days ago and saw hints of one close by. I think the critter was about 50-60 meters away.
They appear to be well fed so far, so they likely see grown adults as preditors and would leave them alone if left alone themselves. But pets and kids....NEVER trust a 'cat.
I like big cats.
But if there were 2 adults standing by a rock cliff, the smaller and slower one will be the chosen.......Even if they are an adult.
Hint.....dont run!
Here is a picture of the area I was out hiking on.
Here is a pic just below the Sweet Home Mine.
Still be a few weeks before that road is open. Unless your like me and like to travel by foot.
Some of the snow drifts can get as deep as 6 foot or deeper back in there.
Just out of this pic around the corner, there is a 6-8 ft drift.
Fantastic time of year to hike in Colorado!
What are you waiting for? Get out there and enjoy!
Looks like this weekend starting today through next weekend will be prime viewing time for spring mountain flowers!!
Heres a pic shot yesterday 6/15 of some already out.
We had late snows this spring so it's a bit late for the flowers but watch out......AWESOME COLORS COMIN' AT YA'!!
Enjoy

Amazing Dan
Even last week I saw a purple Showy Daisy still out at 10,000 feet.
The weater has been great for hiking and prospecting still, but if your out, bring that heavy coat. You will be needing it. Always be prepared.
Its that time of year. Dont get caught off guard!
Here is a story about one lucky man who did.
